| Using the meter for feed budgeting | ||
| Just like an accountant would do a money budget , a pastoral farmer should
do a feed budget so he knows how much feed he has and therefore plan how to use it. To feed budget you need to know how much dry matter is in each paddock. This is where the Filips Folding Plate Pasture Meter is essential. This is the simplest pasture meter you can get, yet it is accurate, reliable and can be used in all weather conditions (Many electronic probes do not give accurate results in the wet and cannot be used - they also cost a lot more!). The Filip's meter folds up and has a removable plate, making it easy to transport and store. Using the Filips Folding Plate Pasture Meter is very simple. When you enter a paddock you zero the sample counter and take note of the initial reading on the bottom counter. You walk across the paddock taking typically 30 to 50 samples. Then take note of the final reading on the bottom counter and the number of samples taken. Repeat for each paddock and your information gathering is complete. A calculator can be used to convert the gathered information into a useable form but if you have a computer, Pasture Management Software does the job better and presents you with information ready to use. It's user friendly without all the confusing "bells and whistles" and it complements the meter itself.
